"Very high rate of fire short range plasma weapon"

A powerful close-range weapon, the Autocannon can shred targets near their ship. Autocannons are very cost-efficient for the firepower they provide. They also fire projectiles in bursts which can punish targets that momentarilly move within range. While innaccurate, these weapons can hit small targets with their high firing rate and good projectile velocity. However, Autocannons do consume higher amounts of power. Their burstyness and great firepower can deplete enemy shields quickly, unless enemies can move out of range fast enough. Since Autocannons have short range and good projectile velocity, their shots tend to reach their targets quickly. Players should note the energy consumption of these Autocannons, and may have to invest in generators to maintain sustained fire.
